Arable
Most of the arable farming is done in order to produce food for the cows. Some is sold on but growing it ourselves saves money and reduces our carbon footprint on miles that the food is transported.
| Crop | Used For | Approx Harvest Date |
|---|---|---|
| Grass (silage) | feed | June/July |
| Maize | feed | Sept |
| Barley | sale/straw | July |
| Wheat | feed/straw | August |
This summer was a particularly good year allowing us to take 3 good silage cuts and fill the silage pits up for the winter.
The maize was an excellent crop due to the weather; enough rain to keep it growing and plenty of sunshine to make the cobs large.
The Wheat and Barley also benefitted from great weather and allowed a large and quality harvest which in term should generate a good price per tonne.
